ICONS | Photographer William Rutten
until 9 October 2022
ICONS is the first retrospective of photographer William Rutten with an impressive collection of his photographic oeuvre. In 35 years he has had celebrities from all over the world in front of his lens, from Henny Vrienten to Waylon and from Al Pacino to Lady Gaga.
From an early age, Rutten was particularly intrigued by photos of artists in magazines. And dreamed of making it myself. His career started with photographing Het Goede Doel. He started working for the Hitkrant and could therefore be found a lot at Countdown. In the 1990s, Rutten was a house photographer for 2 Unlimited and traveled the world with them.
down to earth
As a passionate photographer who shoots in his own creative way and with an eye for detail, he has become one of the Netherlands' best-known photographers. A self-made man who, with his down-to-earth mentality and his camera, makes contact with stars from all over the world.
The ticket includes the audio tour, to be picked up at the box office. In it, Rutten tells the stories about his works and, in a film made especially for the exhibition, he takes visitors to his own photo studio where he has photographed many celebrities. A small studio has also been created for the exhibition, where the photographer – if he is present in Museum Hilversum – always captures a few visitors. The lucky ones get the portrait to take home.
