75 years of freedom

We commemorating and celebrating in different ways. And not only on 4 and 5 May. The New Year's meeting in the Vitus church was all about freedom. The Light of Life in memory of the Holocaust victims was shown in January and primary schools work on the theme of being free, what does that mean for you? Commemoration Day

The 4th of May | Theatre Gooiland

During Commemoration Day on the 4th of May, Holland grieves for the people killed in World War II. The memorial meeting will take place at Theatre Gooiland on the Luitgardeweg at 6:30 PM. The Bill Minco lecture, named after the famous Hilversum resistance fighter, is a permanent part of the 4th of May ceremony in Hilversum. Many activities were planned in May to commemorate and celebrate freedom. Unfortunately, most activities cannot continue. Soon you will read more about the modified program here.

Polar Bear

The 5th of May | 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM | Gooiland

Early in the morning thousands of Hilversummer were waiting on the Gooilandplein for their liberators. Around noon the first vehicles of the Allies entered Hilversum. They were the scouts of the British 49th (West Riding) Infantry Division. A polar bear was depicted on their uniforms and vehicles. The Polar Bears were welcomed by an outrageous crowd. Hilversum was liberated and that is celebrated 75 years later with the unveiling of a Polar Bear on the Gooilandplein.
