Orchestra of the Last Century
Saturday 21 November
Morgensterkerk
The Orkest van de Vorige Eeuw (Orchestra of the Last Century) performs Franz Schubert’s beautiful Unfinished Symphony (No. 8) and Johannes Brahms’ romantic Symphony No. 4.
The orchestra was originally formed in January 2017 for an appearance on the Dutch television programme Podium Witteman (now Podium Klassiek). Following this performance, the musicians decided to continue playing together. The ensemble consists mainly of experienced amateur and professional musicians, many of whom have known each other since their student days in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
The orchestra takes on two projects each year, one in spring and one in autumn, with each project culminating in two concerts. Its permanent conductor is Marien van Staalen, former principal cellist of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.
