Open Monument Days Hilversum

12 and 13 September

DAC Dudok Architecture Centre

Discover some of Hilversum’s most beautiful historic buildings during Open Monument Days. 2026’s national theme, ‘Heritage & Architecture: Buildings with Resilience’, puts the stories behind these remarkable places in the spotlight. Around 46 monuments and hidden gems open their doors, including many places that are usually closed to the public.

Step inside Hilversum icons such as the Vitus Church, Zonnestraal Estate, the Fabritius School, the Mevlana Mosque and Zwaluwenberg Estate. There are also several new locations to discover this year, including the former Vermeer School, Ons Gebouw, Jagtlust Country House, Monk Bouldergym and the Vondel School. At various locations, you can join guided tours, visit exhibitions and performances, or enjoy classical concerts presented in collaboration with WoNDeRFeel.

On Saturday evening, follow the special Speaking Façades route, where historic buildings come to life through light art, music and stories. On Sunday, the lawn beside Hilversum Town Hall turns into a lively children’s festival, where young visitors can discover architecture and heritage through play.

To celebrate 75 years of television in the Netherlands, there is also a special cycling route past some of Hilversum’s landmark media buildings. Discover places such as De Vioolkist, the EO building, the former AKN and M buildings, the KRO studio complex and the former Radio Netherlands Worldwide/AVROTROS building.

Spend a weekend uncovering fascinating stories, surprising architecture and unique places that reveal both Hilversum’s history and its future.
