Time to swap the tablets and game consoles for some outdoor fun! In and around Hilversum, there are loads of places where kids can run, climb and play to their heart’s content. Think nature playgrounds where muddy hands are part of the fun, playgrounds packed with zip lines and climbing frames, and even a cool skate park for older kids. And the best part? Some spots come with sunny terraces and great cafés nearby, so you can relax with a fresh mint tea and a homemade slice of cake while the kids let off steam.

't Laer forest playground

Do your kids love muddy hands, climbing trees, building dens and playing hide-and-seek? Then 't Laer forest playround is the place to be. This adventurous nature playground is packed with sand, rocks, water and plenty of natural play areas where kids can let their imagination run wild for hours. Meanwhile, you can settle down at one of the picnic tables or benches and enjoy some homemade treats together because bringing your own broodtrommel (lunchbox) into nature is about as Dutch as it gets.

OERRR play nature

Wander through the forest, scramble over branches, climb up to the treehouse and build dams in the water. At OERRR play nature there’s a play area for little ones and plenty of adventure for older kids too. While the children run wild in nature, you can settle into the terrace at Brambergen with a big cappuccino, homemade apple pie or a sharing platter, and simply enjoy the moment.

Erfgooiersspeeltuin

Erfgooiersspeeltuin is tucked away in the north of Hilversum, right on the edge of the heath. This spacious and safe playground is packed with climbing frames, swings and even a real zip line. While the kids happily play for hours, you can relax on the terrace with a coffee or tea in hand. Or do as the Dutch do and bring your own homemade picnic for a little playtime break.

Nike Homecourt skate park

Perhaps not exactly a playground, but definitely one of the coolest spots around for kids who love skating, scootering or trying out tricks. At this awesome skate park, next to the Nike Headquarters, kids can practise kickflips, grind rails or carefully roll over the ramps on their scooter. Even if they aren’t skaters themselves, it’s still a fun place to hang out for a while. Watching others pull off impressive tricks is entertainment on its own.

De Zoutkeet playground

Think giant sandpit with a water pump, swings, climbing towers and a cool zip line. There are special play facilities for children with disabilities too, including reclining swings, a wheelchair-accessible carousel, a sand table and a water pump that can be used from a wheelchair. Meanwhile, parents can relax on the spacious terrace with a coffee or tea while keeping an eye on the kids.

Climbing park in Lage Vuursche

This climbing park is the ultimate climbing adventure for little daredevils and fearless explorers. Choose from 10 different courses and tackle climbing heights ranging from 2 to 22 meters high.
