Sweet souvenirs

De Gooise Matras, Kerkstraat

Chocolate lovers, this one's for you! Right in the heart of Hilversum, you'll find a shop filled with handmade chocolates in all shapes and flavours. But the real stars? The Gooise matrasjes. These little chocolate treats take their name from the infamous Gooise Matras (Gooi Mattress), a cheeky nickname linked to the love lives and romantic gossip of the Dutch media world in the 1960s and 1970s. A sweet taste of Hilversum's media history!

Sparkling blonde beers

Gooi Brewery in Foodhall MOUT, Market Square

Who needs champagne when you've got Gooische Bubbel? This sparkling blonde beer is brewed with champagne yeast, giving it a fresh, slightly fruity taste. The brewery also uses buckwheat, a crop once grown on the historic farmland of the Gooi region, giving its beers a true local touch. Pick up a bottle to take home at The Skiff Liquor Store, Il diVino or Bierwinkel De BarBier. Fancy a taste first? Head to Foodhall MOUT, home to the brewery, where you can pour your own glass straight from the tap. Cheers to that!
