Lady Blackbird returns to De Vorstin. After her sold-out show in March 2023, the American singer is back in Hilversum, this time presenting music from her new album Slang Spirituals.
With her powerful, soulful voice, Lady Blackbird moves effortlessly between jazz, soul, gospel and rock. Her music can sound both grand and intimate, and her performances are known for their intensity. On stage, she delivers a captivating blend of raw emotion, freedom and musical craftsmanship.
On Slang Spirituals, Lady Blackbird reveals a new, more personal side of herself. The album is bolder than her acclaimed debut Black Acid Soul. In songs like Let Not (Your Heart Be Troubled) and Reborn, she sings about self-acceptance, faith and rediscovering her inner strength. Her voice sounds both powerful and vulnerable, carried by rich arrangements infused with soul, gospel and psychedelic influences. Once again, producer Chris Seefried creates a layered, immersive sound that gives her remarkable voice plenty of space to shine.
Lady Blackbird grew up in a religious family in New Mexico and found her freedom through music. She evolved from a background singer into one of the most striking soul voices of today, praised by outlets such as The Guardian and The Times. On May 9, she will once again fill De Vorstin’s main hall with her irresistible mix of soul, jazz and deeply personal storytelling.
Please note: this concert is standing room only.
