Ik van jou

Als jij nou
van mij

En ik
van jou

Dan past
het precies

Minke Maat (1974) has lived in Hilversum for 10 years. She works as a poet, writer, and songwriter. Minke likes to put the ordinary in the spotlight and is very proud of the work she made with artist Eric van der Vegt. He integrated her poem IK VAN JOU in the wall art on the wall at the De Oude Doelen on the Groest. This poem comes from Minke’s fourth poem collection ‘Het is overal’ (2016) and demonstrates it doesn’t always have to be difficult to be special.  ‘Als jij nou van mij, en ik van jou, dan past het precies’! This translates as: if you like me and I like you it fits perfectly, could be about love or about poetry itself. What Minke shows with her poems is that it doesn’t have to be difficult like some may think. Just like love, you can make it as easy or as difficult as you want. Sometimes the puzzle is completed with two pieces. Sometimes it breaks into thousands or you are one of thousand pieces! Minke loves to play with words and keeps a light tone without losing depth.

Every five years Minke publishes a collection of poems and her next book will be published in 2021. Her Poems are not only printed on paper but she also has created cards with her work. On those cards, she combines her own paintings with her poems. She also works a lot with her sister Sanne who also lives in Hilversum. Minke’s sister Sanne is a goldsmith and together the sisters combine jewelry with poetry into unique poetry jewels in their atelier MaatKwadraat. And to top it off she combines music with her words. Minke works together with the Fanuel Coenraad who works for the Hilversum record label Lapanouse Music. You can listen on Spotify to songs like ‘Een kus op je gedachten’, ‘Ik vergeet je niet’ and ‘Dat ben jij’, via 'Het is overal – poëzie op muziek'. An album is in the making.

Eric van der Vegt
The Hilversum graffiti (and more) artist Eric van der Vegt turned the empty wall near the Oude Doelen on de Groest into a piece of art. The poem IK VAN JOU from Minke Maat was the inspiration for a beautiful wall painting with two enormous colorful faces and geometric figures that symbolize the building blocks of life. Eric also gave the poems some wings thereby creating a great selfie spot with its own hashtag #Hillywings. Every city has such a place but now traveling has become so limited we felt that Hilversum also needed such a spot. That way Hilversum can give you your own unique wings. Just around the corner is a flowerpot that has been painted gold by Eric and now shines like a jackpot. Because if things fit... And so the circle of this wall art is round. In the pot, the seed of life will be planted which will grow into the flower of life which is painted above the pot. And if you’re having trouble getting the wings completely on your selfie, you can always go for the smaller butterfly wings which Eric painted at Mout just around the corner.
