Mieke van Zonneveld has been the 2nd city poet of Hilversum since January 2018. In that capacity, she publishes at least 8 poems per year. This includes writing a poem in tribute to a renowned Hilversum poet and writing a poem especially for a lonely funeral. Besides, the city poet is given the assignment to make residents - young and old - as enthusiastic as possible about poetry and literature.

Meet Mieke, our City Poet

Mieke van Zonneveld (1989) is a poet, literary scholar, and Dutch teacher at the International School Alberdingk Thijm in Hilversum. At the start of 2017 she debuted with her poetry collection ‘Leger’ for which she was nominated for the VSB Poetry price 2018. About being the new city poet, Van Zonneveld said: “I find it a nice new challenge. Something completely different from what I have done before, but it has a strong connection with what I love doing most, writing poetry. I hope that at the end of these 2 years more people have gotten in touch with poetry, and I could make them excited about it in one way or another.”
