Hilversum may be known as the media capital of the Netherlands, but unless you work in the industry, you rarely get to see what goes on behind the scenes. Curious to explore the world of Dutch media? Spend a day in Hilversum and discover it for yourself! We've put together a fun-filled media-themed day out for you.
Start your day on a fresh note at The Deli at Media Park. This is the place to go for great coffee, fresh juices and healthy bites. The menu features delicious sandwiches, crisp salads and bowls you can customise with your favourite wholesome ingredients. Open weekdays from 8:30 am.
The Hillywood Tours train is waiting for you at the entrance to Sound & Vision. Hop aboard for an exciting guided tour of Media Park! Along the way, you'll discover what goes into making television, how sets are built, where props are stored and what Europe's largest event studio looks like. You'll also make a stop at the Walk of Fame. And who knows? You might even spot a Dutch celebrity!
Time for lunch! Head to David’s at Hilversum’s lively Media Park and grab a seat. With its bold industrial interior, warm atmosphere and striking freestanding bar taking centre stage, David’s serves up Southern American soul food with a New York vibe. Will you go for a club sandwich, a Philly cheesesteak or a pastrami bagel?
Your next stop is Sound & Vision, but first, take a short walk towards Hilversum Media Park railway station to admire the Traverse. This striking pedestrian tunnel connecting Media Park to the station is also known as the Kijkbuis (Viewing Tube). With its wave-like perforations and TV test pattern at the end, walking through it feels like stepping inside a work of art.
Another architectural showstopper: Sound & Vision! This colourful building is home to one of the world's largest media archives, preserving everything from radio and television programmes to videos, video games, newspapers, political cartoons, GIFs, websites and physical objects.
Want to end your day in style? Head to Primo, next to the legendary Wisseloord Studios, west of Media Park, for drinks or dinner. Music icons such as the Rolling Stones and Elton John have recorded some of their legendary music here. You might even find yourself rubbing shoulders with musicians at the bar, fresh from a recording session. Set in beautiful wooded surroundings, Primo is the perfect place to enjoy authentic Italian cuisine. Sit back, savour the flavours of Italy and experience the warm hospitality of Luca and his team.
