For children diagnosed with coeliac disease, following a strict gluten-free diet is essential. The Sinterklaas Parade in Hilversum is making sure they can join in the celebrations too! A special Gluten-free Piet will be part of the parade, handing out gluten-free kruidnoten (traditional Dutch spiced biscuits that are a much-loved part of the Sinterklaas celebrations) so that children with coeliac disease can enjoy the festivities without worrying about gluten.
Gluten-free kruidnoten for children with coeliac disease
The Dutch Coeliac Association (NCV) is helping make the Sinterklaas Parade a celebration for every child. That's why a special Gluten-free Piet will be joining the parade in Hilversum.
Gluten-free Piet carries gluten-free kruidnoten and pays special attention to children who need to avoid gluten because of coeliac disease. They can enjoy the same treats, high-fives, dancing and photo opportunities as everyone else, without the risk of gluten cross-contamination.
How can Gluten-free Piet spot you?
It's easy! Just bring along the special green Gluten-free Piet flag. Download and print the flag, attach it to your Piet hat or a small stick, and hold it up during the parade. This helps Gluten-free Piet recognise you and know that you need gluten-free kruidnoten.
You can also download, colour in and bring along the special Gluten-free Piet colouring sheet. If rain is forecast, it's a good idea to laminate your flag or colouring sheet to keep it dry.
Where can you find Gluten-free Piet during the parade?
Gluten-Free Piet will be cycling near the front of the parade on a cargo bike filled with gluten-free kruidnoten. Keep your green flag clearly visible so Piet knows you're following a gluten-free diet.
That way, every child can enjoy the magic of Sinterklaas in Hilversum!
